Just back from our first trip to Marmaris Turkey, we had a great time and the weather was brilliant. Marmaris offers great beaches, clear seas, and the people are so friendly and helpful. We visited Cleopatra Island, and had a tour of a traditional Turkish village which included lunch, also included was a trip to Jesus beach and a mosque. The trips went well but are not suitable for wheelchairs as the terrain is mostly shingle or clay. The reps will make every attempt to sell these tours knowing they are unsuitable. They did recommend evening shows which were very good but this part of Turkey does not have any adapted transport systems which still restricted our guest. The facilities at the Alenz Suites were basic although they could accommodate wheelchair. The rooms were quite large and had one bathroom with bath, shower and the second adapted bathroom (wet room) had shower seat and a grab rail at the side, we were able to get the wheelchair in all doors. The hotel staff assisted each time with taking the chair down “ramps” which are very steep and originally built to take luggage. The locality outdoors was flat making it easy to walk/push however at the edge of the pavements you have to negotiate “gullies” which takes the water etc away . The hotel also had Spa and beauty treatments available and these treatments were readily taken up by our guest.
This holiday is not recommended for our guests who are wheelchair users.
